Waldo Story, son of the American Sculptor and writer William Wetmore Story was born in Rome in 1855 where he began his career. He later worked in England where in 1887 at the instigation of Whistler, the painter and friend who greatly admired his work, he was elected a Member of the "Royal Society of Britih Artists", exhibiting at the Royal Academy and the Grosvenor Gallery. A version of this bust of Flavius Honorius was commissioned by Mrs Burns (sister of J P Morgan) of North Mymms Park for the Renaissance Room, also designed by Waldo Story, while another in bronze was exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1885.
Waldo Story's work is now held at the National Portrait Gallery, London and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
