Sandstone Head of Buddha

Post Angkor Period 14th to 15th Centuries

This is a finely carved Buddha, the face with a serene expression and downcast eyes under arched eyebrows. The earlobes are long and the hair is worked in tight curls rising to the ushnisha surmounted by a lotus bud. Remains of black lacquer on a modern wood stand.

Height 44 cm ( 17.5 in )

Provenance: Acquired before 1978
