Moro Armoured Jacket (SOLD)

Philippines

Mid 19th Century

This armoured jacket is of chain mail with brass plates and silver decorative mounts. The clasps have characteristic 'ukkil' motifs, showing clearly both Muslim and Spanish influences. These armoured jackets are found exclusively amongst the Moro groups in the south of the islands and decorated example such as this would have belonged to a high ranking person such as a Sultan or 'Datus'.
