Early Jurassic Dinosaur Footprints

South Dakota, U.S

Circa 170 Million Years Old

Height 36.5 cm (14.25 in)

These striking footprints were excavated in the White River Badlands of South Dakota in the U.S and are probably those of a theropod probably a Grallator. Theropods walked on two legs and included tyrannoaurous as well as the forefathers of modern day birds.
The creature left its tracks in the soft mud of the river basin which hardened in the sun and were filled with ash or sediment of a different consistency which over time fossilised. The layers have been separated to reveal a raised cast of these ancient feet.
