The chess set pattern can be compared to an example attributed to Merrifield Circa 1830 and illustrated in Michael Mark, Chessmen Practical and Ornamental, exhibition catalogue, Asprey 1986 fig 8.

Merrifield worked between 1818 and 1851 in Great Turnstile, Lincoln’s Inn Fields
